Last week Barn Swallows read books that help to inspire and foster confidence. We had discussions about the author’s purpose for writing these types of books, and the lesson each book aimed to teach. Students discussed ways they can help each other develop confidence, and things to avoid saying to others that might hurt their self-confidence.
During math first graders worked on solving addition problems with unknown addends. Second graders began measuring lengths with centimeters. They solved story problems comparing the lengths of objects.
During Out & Abouts students began to learn about how animals use camouflage and hibernation. Using natural materials, they played a game where they designed an insect that uses camouflage, hid it in the garden, and let others search for it. To begin to introduce hibernation, they played a game where they pretended to be a bear preparing for winter.
We have a short week, again. Conferences are this Thursday. Please check your email for a link to your conference. If you have not yet signed up, please call the office at (503) 359-4600.
Also, for those who opted in, there will be information from the school about COVID screening. Please check your emails for this as well.
At the beginning of the year, the school decided to provide snacks because we wanted to ensure we could serve snacks safely in light of COVID. The extra costs for the school associated with COVID make it unaffordable for us to continue this. We are asking for donations of snacks or money to help us continue to provide healthy snacks. If you provide snacks, please make sure they are not sugary, are individually wrapped from the store, and there are at least 44 servings. We cannot serve any food that has been prepared in students' homes. If you are able to provide donations of either snacks or money for snacks, please leave these items at the front desk for us. We are sorry for the change part way into the year. Thank you for understanding.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
