CLASSROOM NEWS: Last week we read and discussed books about courage. Students practiced capitalizing the names of days of the week and of months. In the afternoons, students worked on adding details to their personal narratives and focused on telling their stories in tiny steps. During math first graders worked on solving addition problems with unknown addends, and solving story problems. First graders can complete any pages in their math workbooks up to Module 1, Lesson 20. Second graders began learning about place value to the thousands. Second graders can complete any pages in their math workbooks up to Module 3, Lesson 3.
*I have added photos from our Out & Abouts with the Portland Audubon Society and OMSI. Please check them out!
WATER BOTTLES AND EXTRA CLOTHES: Please send your child to school with a water bottle and an extra pair of clothes. Also, if you are taking your child's old clothes to GoodWill, consider donating them to the school. We will keep them in the Out & About closet to use when children need something dry or clean to wear. We have run out of spare water bottles to hand out to students that have forgotten to bring their own.
FGCS FUNDRAISER: Donating through a Bottle Drop fundraiser is a super easy way to support our school. Just use the blue bag sent home last Friday to save all your bottles and cans. When the bag is full, drop it off at a Bottle Drop - the closest one to FGCS is located at 2933 Pacific Ave., Forest Grove - next to Goodwill and across the street from Safeway. Your container refunds will be donated to FGCS.
Need more bags? There are extras in the school office or contact Karen Torry at k.torry@fgcschool.org or 503-359-4600 to have one sent home in your student's backpack. We'd be happy to distribute bags to grandparents, other relatives or friends who'd like to donate their bottle deposits to FGCS.
