Last week we read and wrote free verse poetry. As we read poems, we continued to think about how the poetry made us feel and what it made us visualize. We continued to brainstorm descriptive and sensory words that we could use in our poetry. We also read and wrote "noisy" poems with onomatopoeia (sound words). All week we read books about the interdependence of things living in a temperate forest. Students contributed to a class poster about forests by drawing forest plants and animals and adding them to the appropriate layer of the forest (forest floor, shrub layer or canopy). On Thursday, students spent the afternoon in the Backyard Garden.
Second graders worked on using drawings to show regrouping with 2-digit addition. Second graders can complete any homework through module 4, lesson 20. First graders finished their unit on measurement, and began working on collecting, sorting and organizing data using tables and tally marks. First graders can complete all homework through module 3, lesson 11.
