Last week during morning meetings, Barn Swallows played a game where they each wrote a healthy choice they had recently made and put their papers into a basket for me to read aloud to the class. As I read each choice, I kept the name of the person a secret and students tried to guess who it was.  A lot of students wrote about making choices to be kind, trying new healthy foods, or stretching and exercising.   They practiced reading comprehension and literature response skills while reading books about making healthy choices.  We read What Would Danny Do?  How do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food? Gregory the Terrible Eater, Busy Bodies, and I Think I Have the Wiggle Fidgets.

In writing, students are working on revising the different parts of their superhero stories so they can "publish" their stories. They worked on making sure their stories include some of the following details about their superhero:
  • The superhero's likes and dislikes.
  • Where they live.
  • Who their sidekick or best friend is.
  • What their superpower is and how they got it.
  • What their best quality is.
  • How they help people.

In math, first graders finished up their number line unit and began studying two-dimensional shapes. They described and compared attributes of various shapes. They organized sets of shapes according to size, shape and color. Second graders practiced measuring in centimeters, meters, inches, feet, and yards.  They completed story problems comparing lengths and heights of objects.

This is a link to buy our school yearbook. The yearbook will have a few pages dedicated to our class, as well as some candids mixed in on the Out & About pages. https://www.flipcause.com/secure/cause_pdetails/NjM2NTg=
