JANUARY 3, 2022
HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope you all enjoyed some fun and relaxation during the past couple of weeks.
CLASSROOM NEWS: Before the break, students continued to meet daily with their reading and spelling/phonics groups. They listened to read alouds about winter and kindness. In writing, students worked on completing their plans for their imaginative narratives and began writing a beginning to introduce the character and setting and to hook the reader. First graders worked on adding two or three addends with sums to 20. First graders can complete any pages in their math workbooks up to Module 2, Lesson 10. Second graders worked on word problems that required them to apply what they know about place value to subtraction, reviewed using a number line to count on by 1s, 10s and 100s, and began a mid-module assessment. Because we are taking time to review what second graders have learned and to assess what they've learned for report cards, second graders can complete any incomplete pages in their math workbook up to Module 3 Lesson 10. For our Out & About, Swallows made peanut butter and pinecone bird feeders and walked to the marsh at B Street Trail to observe changes. On Thursday and Friday afternoons, Swallows worked on winter crafts, including clay trinket dishes, snowmen painting, cut snowflakes, photo frames, and holiday cards.
IMPORTANT: Due to the cold weather lots of children are requesting mittens. We do not have any mittens available at school. Please send your child to school with mittens, a warm layer, a rain jacket, extra clothes, and a water bottle.
