CLASSROOM NEWS: Last week we read aloud books about light energy. Students learned that there are different sources of light, that light travels in waves, and that objects either absorb, reflect or refract light. Students were pulled from language arts class to assess their progress in reading. We will share this information with you on report cards at the end of the month. During assessments we took a break from regular spelling and phonics groups to play Spelling Jeopardy. Students spent time reading independently to a stuffed animal. We also spent some extra time focusing on social-emotional learning with two characters named Puppy and Snail. In math, first graders used subtraction to solve word problems that involved subtracting nine from a teen number. First graders can complete any pages in their math workbooks up to Module 2, Lesson 14. Second graders worked on multiple ways to express three-digit numbers. Second graders can complete any incomplete pages in their math workbook up to Module 3 Lesson 15. For our Out & About, Calvin's dad, Nate Ball, came to teach Level 1 students about light energy. He brought many different demonstrations and experiments to deepen students' thinking about light.
IMPORTANT: We are running low on snacks again. Any donations of snacks are appreciated! If you provide snacks, please make sure they are not sugary, are individually wrapped from the store, and there are at least 44 servings. We cannot serve any food that has been prepared in students' homes.
