CLASSROOM NEWS: Last week we read legends and folk tales explaining the sun, moon and stars. Students played with toy animals to act out their own legends and folktales. They then made shadow puppets of the characters in their stories and began to write their stories down. First graders have been using and comparing different strategies for subtracting a single digit from a teen number. First graders can complete any pages in their math workbooks up to Module 2, Lesson 20. Second graders worked on representing three-digit numbers in different ways while comparing them using the symbols <, >, and =. They also practiced what it means to have 1, 10, or 100 more and 1, 10, or 100 less than a number. Second graders can complete any incomplete pages in their math workbook up to Module 3 Lesson 20.

IMPORTANT:
- Next Monday we will celebrate Valentine's Day. Children can bring cards to exchange. It's okay if the cards include stickers, pencils, etc., but please do not bring candy or sweets. If your child brings cards, please make sure they have one for each of their classmates.
- We have many coats, sweaters, and other clothing items in the lost and found. Please write your child's name inside their clothing so we can return it to them.
- We are running low on snacks again. Any donations of snacks are appreciated! If you provide snacks, please make sure they are not sugary, are individually wrapped from the store, and there are at least 44 servings. We cannot serve any food that has been prepared in students' homes.
