CLASSROOM NEWS: Last week we continued to read books about kindness. Students worked on kindness posters for the other Forest Grove Community School classrooms and delivered them on Friday. They worked in teams. I noticed that they've all improved in their ability to work together, and their spelling has improved a lot, too! It was heart-warming to see how into showing kindness they were. On Thursday, we went on a kindness walk to deliver cards and Love Rocks to the library, police station, fire station and city hall. We also hung bird cookies made by the students. First graders have been using and comparing different strategies for subtracting a single digit from a teen number. First graders can complete any pages in their math workbooks up to Module 2, Lesson 24. Second graders completed an assessment for Module 3 and began Module 4. They practiced adding or taking away 1 or 10 from a two-digit number. They also reviewed expressing numbers as a numeral, as ones and tens, and in expanded form. Second graders were sent home with a new homework book today. They can complete up to Module 4, Lesson 3.
