CLASSROOM NEWS:  Last week we read and discussed books about winter and fiction books with strong main characters.  In the afternoons, students worked on learning how to create lovable characters for fiction stories. First graders worked on adding two numbers when one of the addends is 9. They practiced efficient strategies for making ten and counting on.  First graders can complete any pages in their math workbooks up to Module 2, Lesson 5. Second graders continued to study place value to the thousands, focusing on breaking numbers into expanded form, describing the number by telling how much of each unit, and representing a number by drawing hundreds, tens and ones. They began to use $100, $10 and $1 bills to help them understand how money is connected to numbers in base 10. Second graders can complete any pages in their math workbooks up to Module 3, Lesson 9. For Out & About Swallows created an animal adaptation that could help an animal stay warm in winter, and we walked to B Street Trail to notice changes and investigate Gales Creek from the bridge.

FGCS FAMILY DIRECTORY:  Contact information for families who offered to share their information can be found here. I will add this link to our home page so you can access the directory in the future.

VACCINE CLINIC:  Pacific University is partnering with the Oregon Health Authority and FEMA to bring a COVID-19 vaccination and booster shot clinic to Forest Grove Dec. 11-14. The drive-through/walk-up clinic is open to the public, and no appointments are required. The vaccine clinic will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, through Tuesday, Dec. 14, in Parking Lot M on the Pacific University Forest Grove Campus. Follow traffic flow signage to access the clinic from Main Street.

FGCS FUNDRAISER:  Donating through a Bottle Drop fundraiser is a super easy way to support our school. Just use the blue bag sent home last Friday to save all your bottles and cans. When the bag is full, drop it off at a Bottle Drop - the closest one to FGCS is located at 2933 Pacific Ave., Forest Grove - next to Goodwill and across the street from Safeway. Your container refunds will be donated to FGCS.
Need more bags? There are extras in the school office or contact Karen Torry at k.torry@fgcschool.org or 503-359-4600 to have one sent home in your student's backpack. We'd be happy to distribute bags to grandparents, other relatives or friends who'd like to donate their bottle deposits to FGCS.

Questions about the fundraiser? Contact parent volunteer Kelley Walker, who is coordinating this fundraiser, at Kelley-Walker@hotmail.com.
