IMPORTANT: With the weather getting colder lots of children are requesting mittens. We do not have any mittens available at school. Please send your child to school with mittens, a warm layer, a rain jacket, extra clothes, and a water bottle.
CLASSROOM NEWS: Last week we read and discussed books about winter and fiction books with interesting settings. In the afternoons, students worked on learning how to create settings that add meaning and interest to their stories. First graders worked on adding two or three addends with sums to 20. First graders can complete any pages in their math workbooks up to Module 2, Lesson 8. Second graders continued to study place value to the thousands. They worked with $100, $10 and $1 bills and, with a partner, figured out how many people would get a ten dollar bill if they had $1000 to give away in tens. Second graders can complete any pages in their math workbooks up to Module 3, Lesson 10. Because there are not many workbook pages to do this week, second graders can practice counting forward to and back from 1,000 by tens. They can also draw a picture that explains how they figured out how many $10 bills are equal to $1000. For Out & About Swallows played a migration game and walked to the B Street Wetland to view ducks and geese with binoculars and to note the seasonal changes taking place.
FGCS FAMILY DIRECTORY: Contact information for families who offered to share their information can be found here. I will add this link to our home page so you can access the directory in the future.
